10 THINGS to give up, not just for LENT but for LIFE!

, 10 THINGS to give up, not just for LENT but for LIFE!10 THINGS to give up for LENT LIFE!

With lent upon us once again I know many of you will be giving up all sorts of things until Easter to make your life better.

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday.  Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is also a time of self-examination and reflection. Here are just 10 ways and 10 things you could consider giving up for life not just for lent that will help you make your life better forever.

Special thanks to Stephen Covey (who is sadly no longer with us) for the inspiration behind this article.

#1 Letting the opinions of others impact on your life
Everyone is on their own journey, including you. Their journey and their opinions should not impact or influence your life. Do what is best for you not everyone else.

#2 Carrying the disappointment of past failures
Your past does not control your present or your future and the future is yet to be decided. What matters the most is now, today, the present. Let go of past failures or disappointments they serve you no benefit or purpose for your actions today.

#3 Being indecisive about what you want
Make some decisions about what you want from life, then plan and pursue these dreams with passion and focus. You will never move from where you are if you don’t decide where you want to be

#4 Procrastinating on the things that matter the most.
You will never get through the city if you wait for all the lights to go green. The best time to start anything is NOW. We have two primary choices in life. Accept things as they are or accept full responsibility for changing them.

#5 Choosing to do NOTHING!
We really don’t get to choose how or when we will die, but we do get to choose how we will live. Every day you have a great opportunity to choose to do something rather than nothing

#6 The importance and need to always be right
Never let the fear of being wrong or incorrect stop you from doing something. As long as you set out to do your very best that is all that matters. Besides – being wrong results in learning something new everytime – Which helps you grow as a person

#7 Running away from problems that should be addressed
The longer and further you run the bigger and tougher the problems become. Small issues can escalate into big tough challenges simply because they weren’t dealt with in a timely manner. Simply put – STOP RUNNING

#8 Making excuses instead of decisions
Long term failures are generally the outcome of blame and excuses instead of decisions. Make the decision to not make excuses

#9 Overlooking all the positive things in your life
If you seek, you shall find – So stop looking at what you don’t have and enjoy and celebrate what you do have. Happiness is an outcome of focusing on the positive things you have in your life

#10 Not living in the NOW
With so much to do and so little time to do it in we spend far too much of our time not being in the NOW and thinking about what is coming up and what needs to be done. It has been proven that multitasking is inefficient and we should simply concentrate on just one thing. So my advice is to be in the most important moment in your life at every moment. That moment is NOW.
