I originally posted this synopsis of The 7 habits of highly effective people back in 2009. To mark the recent passing of its great author Stephen Covey I felt it would be appropriate to repost it here today. I highly recommend his book (7 Habits) to any business owner and certainly to all my clients. It contains simple, straight forward, common sense habits that will help anyone who is running a business. I have modified the time quadrant to be represented by seats in a car (Image inserted below) and will blog this separately at some point… Anyway, here is a brief synopsis of the book written by a wise and amazing man… Stephen R. Being a Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) Business Owner can be a tough, challenging and demanding “job”. But it can also be extremely rewarding and enjoyable too. Here are 10 simple, straight forward common sense tips to help any budding start-up or established SME business owner.
1. Do what you enjoy.
What you get out of your business in the form of personal satisfaction, financial gain, stability and enjoyment will be the sum of what you put into your business. So if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, in all likelihood it’s safe to assume that will be reflected in the success of your business. Bottom line, if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, then the chances are you won’t succeed.
